Democratic elections have been a staple of American government since its foudning. On election day, Americans make their opinions known through the power of the vote. However, there is another way citizens support candidates and help get them elected to office. Operating a campiagn is expensive, and candiates need money for travel, advertising, and staff salaries if they hope to be successful. Americans can donate to candidates they support to increase there chances of winning. In recent years, as the amount of money in politics increases, there have been concerns about what this might affect. People in rural america think there big cities have to much influence on government. City dwellars claim rural votes are disproportionally valued. The east coast thinks the government listens to much to the demands of the west coast and vice versa. While influence is hard to quantify, we can look at where Americans are sending the most money. Party divisions in America have only seem to grow in recent years. Both parties are concerned about the amount of money the other is receiving. Democrats claim Republicans are are flooded with money from big corporations and crooked Wall Street millionaires. Republicans claim Democrats are being bank rolled by the new wave of socialist tech giants. Does one party really receive more financial contributions than the other?
